Patton's Third Army had two legions in the battle of Loraine in early September, the third legion was sweeping German resistance in the Brittany coast. Manton S Eddy, WWI veteran, commanded infantry divisions in North Africa, Sicily and Normandy. The XX Corps was commanded by Major General Walton Walker, graduating from West Point in 1912, and also a WWI veteran.
