Umayyad army, under the command of Al-Malik ibn Samh al-Khawlani, Governor of al-Andalus (now Aldalucia of Spain), overtook Septimania in 719 after wiping out his opponent on the Iberian Peninsula . Al-Samh established his capital in 720 in Narbonne City, which the Moors called Arbūna. With Narbonne's safe harbor, the Umayyad quickly conquered major cities like Alet, Béziers, Agde, Lodève, Maguelonne and Nîmes of the Visigothic people without encountering any significant resistance.
